Die Videoinstallation Kurzer Prozess zerlegt den Moment der Beurteilung in Castingshows in seine charakteristischen Einzelteile. Auf der einen Seite steht die emotionale Spannbreite der Kandidaten zwischen Hoffnung und Verzweiflung, auf der anderen Seite die autoritäre Jury, die über die Kandidaten urteilt. Dabei setzen sich die Kandidaten oft unterwürfig der Willkür der Jury aus, ohne den Gehalt der jeweiligen Urteile zu reflektieren. Sie reagieren mit purer Emotionalität, welche die Jury mit ihren Aussagen bewusst intendiert. Die Castingshow stellt damit den Prototyp eines Machtsystems dar, welcher einerseits existierende Strukturen in der Gesellschaft widerspiegelt, andererseits jedoch durch massenhaftes Wiederholen solcher Prozesse in diesen und ähnlichen Formaten in den Medien einen Modell- und Vorbildcharakter erhält, der Verhaltensweisen in der Gesellschaft neu erzeugt. Die Videoinstallation greift die Situation während des Urteils auf, indem sie einen Bildschirm, auf dem die weinenden Kandidaten zu sehen sind, den gebeamten Juryzitaten gegenüberstellt. Durch das asynchrone Abspielen der beiden Videoloops treffen immer wieder verschiedene Schriftzüge auf unterschiedlich Gesichtsausdrücke und Reaktionen der Kandidaten. Zufälligkeit und Beliebigkeit der Kombinationen entlarven den autoritären Charakter des bestehenden Machtverhältnisses zwischen Jury und Kandidat. Die Wucht der Urteile ruft wiederholend gleiche Reaktionsmuster hervor. Der Rezipient selbst kann dabei die Rolle des Beobachters oder des gedemütigten Kandidaten einnehmen.

The video installation Short Process deconstructs the moment of judging in casting shows in its characteristical components. On the one hand there is the emotional span of the candidates between hope and despair, and on the other hand the authoritarian jury, which adjudicate upon the candidates. Thereby the candidates often expose theirself obedient to the disposal of the jury, without reflecting the content of the particular adjudgement. They react with pure emotion, which the jury with its statements knowingly intents. In addition to that the casting show represents a prototype of a force system, which reflects on the one hand existing structures in the society, but creates on the other hand by the mass recurring of those processes in these and similar shows a model and exemplary character, which constitutes new public policies. The video installation picks up the situation during the adjudgements by opposing a TV-screen, on which the crying faces of the candidates are showed, the beamed quotations of the jury. Through the asynchronous playback of these two loops consistently different lettering converge different facial expressions and reactions of the candidates. Coincidence and arbitrariness of the combination expose the authoritarian character of the existent power structure between jury and candidate. The vehemence of the adjudgements causes repetitive equal patterns of reaction. Thereby the receiver by himself can capture the part of an observer or of a humiliated candidate.
